I developed this modernist inspired herpetarium while my campus at Indiana University was constructing a building designed by Mies van der Rohe that had been lost for decades. Instead of considering my style preferences for naturalistic and integrated outdoor spaces, I focused on how Mies would approach the design and development of this enclosure. The result is a form which depicts a simplified forest, and incorporates the large glass panels, steel beams, and symmetrical/boxy design found in much of Mies's work.
